About Me

Yungjin Shin (she/her) is an independent book and paper conservator based in Athens, Ohio, and the owner of Shin Book & Paper Conservation. She was recently a Pine Tree Foundation Fellow in Book Conservation at the Thaw Conservation Center of the Morgan Library & Museum (2022-24). Prior to the Morgan, she completed a conservation project for the Gwendolyn Brooks Papers Collection at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library (2021-22). Yungjin interned and worked at various conservation labs in library institutions, including the University of Chicago Library, the Weissman Preservation Center at Harvard Library, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the Frick Collection.

Yungjin holds a master’s degree from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation Education, majoring in Library and Archives Conservation with a minor in Paper Conservation. Her love of books led her to the library field early on, where she earned a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. With over a decade of experience in library conservation labs, Yungjin’s work spans book and paper treatments, bookbinding, custom housing, condition assessment, environmental monitoring, and beyond.
