Building on our work with the German paper case, Ann and I decided to make a modified Bradel binding. As noted on the German paper case page, this structure differs from both the original Bradel binding and the German paper case, but it serves as a middle ground between the two.
The modified Bradel binding is a case binding with a three-piece case structure, without a molded spine. This adaptation was developed for conservation practice, particularly for repairing and recasing case bindings. For my model, I created a quarter binding with bookcloth on the spine and marbled paper on the sides.
