During the second year, I researched and treated books and paper objects as a Library and Archives Conservation Education (LACE) major with a Paper minor. Most of them are from the Winterthur Library’s special collections and a few are privately owned items. This year also involved science and preventive conservation research projects, along with seminars and workshops specifically related to the conservation and preservation of library and archives materials. Even though my second year was limited during the second semester due to COVID-19, I was still fortunate to work with a wide variety of objects, including a folk-bound diary, a photo album, Korean traditional books, a letter written by Albert Einstein, and journals and sketchbooks of David C. Driskell. The treatment projects were done in consultation with my supervisors, Dr. Melissa Tedone, a book and library conservator at Winterthur, and Joan Irving, a paper conservator at Winterthur.
My program at Winterthur/University of Delaware was generously funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
