A large group of 14th- to 16th-century Medieval manuscripts was prepared for the exhibition Medieval Money, Merchants, and Morality (November 10, 2023–March 10, 2024) at the Morgan. Many of these manuscripts featured illuminations. To ensure their safe display, the stability of the pigments in the illuminations was carefully assessed. Flaking, friable, or otherwise unstable pigments were consolidated using 1% isinglass. Every leaf containing illumination was examined. This treatment was completed alongside Shaoyi Qian, Sherman Fairchild Fellow, and in consultation with Frank Trujillo.
